About the guideline conference

The Guideline Development Workshop is sponsored by the U.S. GRADE network, an entity of the GRADE working group. The U.S. GRADE network mission is to conduct both basic and advanced GRADE workshops to disseminate best practices in guideline development as well as train GRADE methodologists.

The U.S. GRADE network serves as the nucleus for enhanced collaboration with other US-based institutions such as the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) supported Evidence-Based Practice Centers (EPCs), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the US Cochrane Center and branches, among others.

Optional parallel pre-workshops: "Rapid systematic reviews" & "Running a guidelines program: The nuts and bolts"

We now offer an optional systematic review pre-workshop as well as a morning session about the practical aspects of guideline development in conjunction with the main GRADE guidelines workshop:

Introduction to effectively read a systematic review (SR) as well as the basics of conducting a SR and performing a meta-analysis using free available software
Running a guidelines program: The nuts and bolts. This add-on workshop is intended for guideline program chairs, staff, and other participants interested in learning more about the practical and organizational aspects required to create trustworthy clinical or public health guidelines.

Plenary: Creating trustworthy clinical practice guidelines

We will provide an overview on how to move from asking the right questions to building a methodologically rigorous foundation. In 2011, the Institute of Medicine (now the Health and Medicine Division of the Academy of Sciences) has outlined best practices for clinical guideline development. We will provide an overview of elements necessary to provide clinicians with trustworthy guidelines.
